From the streets to a front row seat: Homeless girl, 20, who wowed William is invited to Royal Wedding Summary:

After hearing the heartbreaking story of Shozna last summer at a gala event; Prince William decided to invite her to his wedding. He was impressed by her courage to speak. Shozna was a student who did A-levels and wanted to become a hairdresser. This all got ruined when she got a stroke. She had an undiagnosed hole in her heart and the consequents were terrible. She was paralyzed on her right side and after months of physiotherapy she became homeless. She went to centre point (one of Prince William’s charity) and got the help she needed. Prince William’s wedding will be a public on to keep his mother’s memory alive.

I really like the fact that Prince William’s wedding will be a public one and that he is keeping the memory of his mother alive this way. I also like that he invited several people that aren’t royalty you wouldn’t expect that.  And although it’s really sad what happened to Shozna, it’s good that she has something to look forward too. Especially since she has a front row seat! I think her story is very inspiring and that she is a good representative of centre point charity.

First assignment UKOK!

BritNed Powercables Summary:

The first step to renewable energy has been taken. An 260km cable will be the direct current electricity line between the UK and 25 other countries.
Thanks to the High Voltage DC it is possible to transport electricity over great distances; as without it the electricity would weaken after 80km.
Wind energy can now more easily be imported when there is a shortage but also exported when there is a surplus, which will help stabilise energy prices. To realise this all will take a several years and their goal is to have a HVDC running form Iceland to the UK.

BritNed Powercables Comment:

I think that it’s a really good thing that the first step to renewable energy has been taken. It will take several years to perfect this, however the progress that they have made the last few years is a good start. Although this subject doesn’t excite me at all, I thought it was interesting to read that the price for electricity will be stable because of this. I’m just wondering if the materials that they are using is safe. They are using copper and lead for the cable, however copper and water isn’t the best combination. And that would be the only downfall I think.
