BritNed Powercables Summary:
The first step to renewable energy has been taken. An 260km cable will be the direct current electricity line between the UK and 25 other countries.
Thanks to the High Voltage DC it is possible to transport electricity over great distances; as without it the electricity would weaken after 80km.
Wind energy can now more easily be imported when there is a shortage but also exported when there is a surplus, which will help stabilise energy prices. To realise this all will take a several years and their goal is to have a HVDC running form Iceland to the UK.
BritNed Powercables Comment:
I think that it’s a really good thing that the first step to renewable energy has been taken. It will take several years to perfect this, however the progress that they have made the last few years is a good start. Although this subject doesn’t excite me at all, I thought it was interesting to read that the price for electricity will be stable because of this. I’m just wondering if the materials that they are using is safe. They are using copper and lead for the cable, however copper and water isn’t the best combination. And that would be the only downfall I think.
Summary is okay, but has details in it that do not seem to be relevant to the main cause.
